Playtime at Mothercare (West Coast Plaza)

Took toddler E to an activity session organised by Mothercare Singapore on 22 March 2013. It was an arts & crafts session with drawing, cutting pieces of paper and gluing them onto a picture.

It was one of the few group activities that E has participated in and he had a good time. He's not so great at the listening part, but he loved the colouring, gluing and pasting.

After the activity, auntie W came to give us a ride home and bought E a chocolate muffin.

Swinging

6 February 2013
Sometimes toddler E does something that makes me wonder what is going through his mind at that very moment. He was having a whale of a time sitting on this contraption that swings side to side at the activity area for senior citizens.

Now I might be just a little bit biased, but he is one cute kid!

Sandals

I was running for the bus while carrying toddler E when he started squirming and screaming at me. I could not figure out what he was trying to say so I jumped on the bus with him, got to the seat and saw this.

The surviving sandal
So we went shoe shopping and found some nice toddler sandals from the Bubblegummers brand at Bata. I'd been buying his sandals from Kiddy Palace all along but they wore out pretty quickly. His new sandals have worked out nicely, very little chafing on his feet and the sandals are still as good as new now (5 months later).

Wandering Bard

13 January 2013
Toddler E received a ukulele as a gift from auntie W and uncle KS. He insisted on carrying it out to dinner with us at Kim's Family Restaurant and even gave an impromptu mini-performance to a waitress at the outdoor restaurant next to Kim's.

Feeding the Fish at Botanic Gardens

The hubby had some time off work during the 2012 Christmas period so we took E out to do some of his favourite activities. Number one on his list is feeding the fish in the koi pond at home. However, the koi only eat in the mornings and E wanted to feed them morning, noon and night which would have probably killed the fish pretty quick. Not to mention the overfeeding would have messed up the filtration system that is carefully tended to by my father-in-law.

So we took him to the Singapore Botanic Gardens to feed the fish in their (really big) pond. E had a great time feeding the koi and turtles. Then catfish noticed the food pellets and were rising to the surface to get their share. Some of them were huge! Almost as big as E. Which made me a little nervous about him standing so close to the edge. I was confident none of the catfish coming over for food pellets were big enough to swallow E, but the pond was huge and there is no telling what lurks in it's depths.

Ok, that sounded ominous so I'm just going to stop here. We all had a great time and everyone came home with all their limbs intact. But honestly, feeding the fish at the Botanic Gardens is free (bring your own fish food, the swans seem to prefer green veggies) and E loves it which is a win-win in my book.

Catchup Post

So I haven't been blogging much about toddler E. This will be a catch up post to share the quirky things he's been doing lately.

Here's a list to keep it short and simple:
- He's begun mimicking the roti prata man when he wakes up at 6am and I'm still struggling to drag myself out of bed. This goes along with him playing masak masak and making 'coffee' for me while he drinks 'water'.

- Some mornings he reads his favourite book 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' instead. This lets me snooze for another 10 blissful minutes.

- He's learnt that meat is called 'bak' in Hokkien (because I speak to him in a mix of languages and use 'bak' instead of 'meat') and at meal times he'll ask for 'Bak only!' instead of the usual 'balanced' spoonful of rice, vegetable and meat that I normally try to give him.

- Daddy E has been teaching him common Thai phrases like 'sawadee krub' and 'khob khun krub' (I'm terrible at spelling in Thai, sorry!)

- He's also started asking a lot of questions, 'What dis?' 'Who dat'? (Trying to spell it the way toddler E says it, super cute and he's trying so hard with pronunciation!)

- Toddler E has a great love for snacks, 'bak hu' or pork floss is his current favourite. When we are over at my cousin's place, THE source of all 'bak hu' in toddler E's universe, when I tell him he's had enough 'bak hu' he will ask different people for it until he gets a 'Yes, you can have a bit of 'bak hu'!' or negotiating for 'A bit bit?' (A little bit).

- He's never liked having water on his head and face. So I bought him a shampoo hat (looks like a visor made of foam that he wears while I shampoo his head to keep water and suds out of his eyes) and that worked for a while.

- Favourite songs are Bicycle & We Will Rock You by Queen, 'Never Ever' by Taylor Swift. Lately he's really into Walk of the Earth's cover of Material Girl.

- Watching TV is no longer entirely passive on his part. Now he dances to theme songs from Hi 5, the hotdog song from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and a few other shows on the Disney Channel.

- Toddler E has been getting more and more independent. His favourite phrases are 'Elliott do it!' then when he's done whatever it is, 'Elliott did it!'

- Booger. He now gives me his boogers, rather proudly too. Don't judge.

- Learned to catch a ball from daddy E.

- He's been balancing on the scooter going up and down the driveway. Then when he gets tired of that, he uses the scooter handle as a microphone to belt out his favourite tunes.

Phew, glad I'm done with that wall of text. Been meaning to write all this down months ago. Toddler E's got a bunch of new things he's doing now!
